To minimize packet loss, the wiring have to be aligned exactly accoding to the standard.
The ordinaly alignment is called 568A and 568B. It was established by TIA(Telecomunications Industry Association)/EIA(Electronic Industries Alliance).

If the both end patch are assambled as T568B, the cable can be used for ordinary LAN cable for CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6.
In case of crossover cable, one of patch cords shall be type of T568A, another one shall be type of T568B. Nowadays most ethernet adaptors support to recognize the type of the connector between T568A and T568B.
